HOURLY RATE OF PAY: £9.00 p.h.

HOURS: 22.5

SHIFT: Two shifts are available, working 9am to 4.30pm

SHIFT 1 - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

SHIFT 2 - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

LOCATION: Woodville Close, Canterbury.

About the Specialist Support Worker Role:

You will need to be an experienced Support Worker, with at least 2 years experience working in the field of autism, learning disabilities or mental health care/support.

You will be Confident in Lone Working, Challenging Behaviour (Verbal, Physical and Property Damaging) and Medication. You will have the ability to think on your feet to solve any problems that arise and have a good working knowledge of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity.

Using the above skills, you will help our residents with their day to day lives, encouraging them to live as independently as possible. Providing exceptional person-centred care. Building meaningful relationships with them, their families, and other professionals. Working within either our Residential, Supported Living or Day Services.

Training Provided:

Online Care Certificate and evidence portfolio (accept transferable evidenced certificate)

5 days virtual induction covering autism and care compliance.

3 days Studio III

First Aid

On the job observation and assessments

About the Service: Woodville

Our Day Centre is located in Canterbury and is open Monday to Friday 9am to 4.30pm. The centre currently supports fourteen autistic adults who also have additional physical, sensory and personal care needs, and several that require assistants with wheelchairs in the community.

Some of our services users can also show some challenging behaviours such as punching and biting, but staff are fully supported and guided by the Trusts own Behavioural Support Team.

We pride ourselves on providing a person-centred service. The job in hand involves supporting the individuals to establish life skills and to have some fun! Activities include cooking, artwork, swimming, soft play, trampolining, day trips to places such as the beach, zoos and theatres.

We have our own mini bus and people carrier that staff can use to transport our services users in to all these great activities.

Tasks / Responsibilities of a Specialist Support Worker:

o The Specialist Support Worker role may include but not be limited to:
o Working with individuals who can display challenging behaviours hurting self or others, running away, throwing things, swearing, shouting and damaging property.
o Support individuals within the community in activities such as bike rides, long walks and shopping,
o Administering medication
o Assisting individuals with personal care and hygiene
o Be confident and experienced in lone working.
o Drive an individuals mobility car or service vehicle. Manual Licence required
o Household management tasks including cooking, cleaning etc.
o Uphold their privacy, confidentially and dignity.
o Handle money to shop, going to the bank etc.
o Working with and supporting individuals with additional needs, such as epilepsy, pica, learning disabilities.
o To form good working relationships with other members of staff across different services.
o Ensuring written records are correctly maintained.
