Freight Forwarding / Import Clerk

Based in Ashford

£22,000 - £28,000 (DOE)

Our client, a fresh produce importer based in Ashford, is currently looking to recruit an experienced Freight Forwarding/Import Clerk to join their team on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate will be required to work 8.30am - 5.30pm Monday to Friday. Some flexibility will be required as some weekend cover working from home will be needed occasionally. The salary for this role is £22,000 - £28,000 depending on experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

* Completing day to day DEFRA (PEACH) entries for all air, sea and road freight shipments
* Telephone and/or written communication with external organisations e.g., HMRC, Port Authorities, Shipping Lines, Hauliers, Suppliers
* Obtain necessary Bill of Ladings and correct Tariff Headings. Obtain payments from customers in line with company policy
* Liaising with customers, partners, shipping lines and carriers
* Calculating Duty / VAT cost for each consignment
* Keeping up to date with changes in regulations, laws and customs procedures
* Planning and arranging deliveries
* Providing administration support to the logistics and commercial team
* Telephone queries, data input and general admin duties

Personal Specification

* Previous experience within an Import Forwarding role, preferably including Customs experience
* Knowledge of customs declarations ideally within a freight forwarding or logistics business
* Previous experience within an Import Forwarding role, preferably including Customs experience
* Confident in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
* Ability to work under pressure
* Excellent attention to detail
* Exemplary customer service skills with the ability to work flexible hours when require.
* Ability to learn and understand existing procedures
* The ability to work independently as well as within a team
* Able to work to deadlines and meet targets
* Driven and self-motivated
