There is an new exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join the Student Financial Support Team within the Student Wellbeing Service at Canterbury Christ Church University. We are looking for a creative and dynamic Student Money Adviser with experience of working in an advisory role and holding a case load. Who will work with the wider department to promote financial wellbeing and deliver a positive student experience. They would be working alongside the Student Financial Support Administrators ensuring academic progress, student retention and widening participation.


Background of department

To deliver an outstanding student experience at Canterbury Christ Church University, through the delivery of an enabling, responsive and student-centred service.

The principal purpose of Student Wellbeing Service (SWS) is to:

- Welcome, support and empower students throughout their programme.
- Provide clear advice to aid retention.
- Identify, monitor and support vulnerable and ‘at risk’ students via early intervention mechanisms.
- Work closely with a broad range of staff to ensure students are safe and their wellbeing is not compromised whilst attending university.
- Support students in making personal life transitions and deal with any difficulties that impact on their ability to study.
- Facilitate academic achievement by removing barriers to progression and helping students maximise their learning opportunities.


The Role

- The post holder will develop and deliver a comprehensive, inclusive and high-quality money advice service. Providing drop-in sessions, workshops and one to one case work.
- The post holder will provide clear expert advice and guidance to a wide range of students (e.g. widening participation students and targeted groups including asylum seekers.) students needing support with their finances including budgeting, debt management, benefits, banking and be able to signpost to external agencies when appropriate.
- The post holder will lead in the development and delivery of a wide range of workshops, presentations and training linked to financial capability and wellbeing to students.
- The post holder will develop a range of inclusive and innovative resources and communications offering early advice and guidance on common financial issues. This includes updating information on websites and working closely with central comms to engage students on a variety of social media platforms
- The post holder will develop and maintain up to date knowledge and share best practice by liaising with external agencies such as the National Association of Money Advisers (NASMA) and work towards accreditation
- The post holder will, where necessary, undertake Interviews with applicants to the University Hardship Fund, related administration and casework including participation in processes to allocate funds
- The post holder will maintain relevant financial records to ensure data is accessible, accurate and up to date
- The post holder will work closely with the team Manager and the wider team to ensure the service is responsive to student needs, and effective in its delivery. They will be tasked with driving change, improvement and innovation in student financial support.


The Person

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a support or advisory role. Experience of case management and evidence of effective service improvement and innovation is essential with an understanding of safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. Relevant experience of providing financial support in a HEI background would be advantageous.
