Title: Project Development Worker – Folkestone Nepalese Community Centre
Working Hours: 30hrs pw – Monday to Friday
(NB. Because of the nature of this role some evening and weekend working may occasionally be required).
Fixed Term: 2 years
Salary: £21,135 (pro rata of £24,657)
Location: Folkestone Nepalese Community Centre, 1 Baker Road, Cheriton, Folkestone, (Nearest postcode) CT19 4NN - (Rear entrance of Cheriton Library)
Annual Leave: 28 days a year plus bank holidays
Reporting to: KCV Snr Project & Development Manager
Funder: Armed Forces Covenant Fund
Stakeholders/Funders and Other Supporters: Armed Forces Covenant, Folkestone Nepalese Community, Royal Gurkha Rifles, Folkestone & Hythe District Council, Armed Forces Champion, Cheriton Library, SSAFA, & KCC.
Note: The ideal candidate will ideally have an appreciation of Nepalese language and culture and an understanding of the Armed Forces.
MAIN PURPOSE OF POST: This is an exciting 2-year collaboration between Folkestone Nepalese Community CIO (FNC), and Kent Coast Volunteering (KCV), with support from Folkestone & Hythe District Council (FHDC) and funding from the Armed Forces Covenant. The main purpose of this role, which reports to KCV, is to work in partnership with FNC to establish and run its community centre which it is proposed will be open for 7 days a week from 10am up to 9.00pm. The postholder will develop a programme of volunteer led activities that serve to combat loneliness. In addition, the post holder is required to uphold best practice across the work of the community centre. The project is intended to support Gurkha Veterans and their families, and the families of the serving soldiers based at Shorncliffe but will be open and available for the wider local community, providing an opportunity to build relationships, improve understanding of Nepalese culture and increase integration.
Closing date is: 9.00am Monday 24th May, 2021.
