Development Underwriter

Barker Munro is proud to be working with this well-established underwriting business who are currently recruiting for a Development Underwriter in their Kent office.

The role of Development Underwriter will suit an experienced insurance underwriter who has a fascination with new business underwriting and who is driven and ambitious and is looking to grow and develop a sizeable book of commercial insurance business.

As part of the regional team you will win profitable business from brokers in your area by working with them and the business development managers in order to satisfy the broker's needs and placing solid commercial lines business.

The role is a targeted new business role, but also dealing with a book of renewal business which will support the regional targets and delivery of profitability business for the team. You will develop effective working relationships with underwriters in other geographical areas when needed to support the overall growth of the GWP. You'll also be tasked with acting as a referral point for lower level underwriting authority holders and support in improving the underwriting and trading capability of the team through coaching.

As we move into a 'New Normal' you will also be tasked with building relationships with key brokers by face to face meetings and supplemented by online virtual meetings to support business goals. You’ll have a strategic mind-set and a genuine passion for delivering change and improvements within this underwriting function. You will be someone with excellent communication skills who can deliver a high-quality underwriting service to your brokers and build strong and lasting relationships with them.

In order to be considered for the role, you will be able to demonstrate experience of working on specialist insurance underwriting products or have cross class knowledge within the commercial insurance space such as Motor Fleet, Commercial Combined, Property or Motor Trade.

The role has a mix of office and home working with flexibility around this going forward. This could enable you to live further from the office and also appeals to you if you are currently engaged in commuting to London and looking for a locally based Underwriting role.
