We are looking for an outstanding individual to join our advocacy and support team who will coordinate regular, ongoing and one-off activities and wellbeing interventions for young refugees and asylum seekers. Building on the success of this role in part time capacity, we are expanding and developing the roles remit, making it full time. You will be dynamic, innovative, professional and a strong communicator, able to build collaborative partnerships, while still delivering wellbeing activities operationally. We are a very committed, flexible working team who are passionate about the young people we work with.
KRAN’s ambition is that all young refugees and asylum seekers are able to thrive and help others to thrive too. To play a part in that, we ensure high-quality services in Kent by integrating warmth, responsiveness and supporting awareness across our practice to help young people where they’re at now and build skills for the future. Through a range of practical interventions across our educational programmes “learning for life” and advocacy and support services we provide opportunities for young people to learn and grow, developing how they view themselves and the world around them (‘scaffolding’) and build their skills, their confidence and well-being, and their networks. KRAN also works to shape a more supportive environment as we help young people survive immediate crises, act as a critical friend to those that engage with the young people, build partnerships, and shape a narrative that fosters greater understanding and support.
Please refer to our website for further details of our values, strategy, theory of change and services www.kran.org.uk .
Main responsibilities and duties
The role will use the principles of trauma-informed, quality practice and co-operation to
undertake their main responsibilities and duties, which include:
Managing Quality Services for Results
- With others and young people themselves, assess the needs of young refugee and asylum seeker individuals, outlining where activities and wellbeing interventions may contribute to building their practical and socio-emotional skills.
- Co-ordinate the provision of a range of activities and wellbeing interventions, with others in KRAN, with volunteers and prioritising partnership with other organisations in service delivery where possible.
- Ensure that activities and wellbeing interventions are measured for results and impact and that lessons are learned and stories are communicated, with support from KRAN’s Impact and Insight Specialist and communications team.
Building Effective Partnerships
- Identify and build partnerships with other organisations for one-off, regular and on-going activities, prioritising building partnerships for quality practice where organisations are willing and become able to sustain their engagement with limited involvement of KRAN.
- Work in partnership with key people in a young person's life, as well as with professionals from other organisations such as social care, health, police, education, youth offending teams and local authorities, in order to build a strong support network.
- Co-operate with partners in measuring the quality and effectiveness of the interventions, including through feedback from young people.
- As necessary, co-operate with other organisations in joint fundraising, supported by KRAN’s senior fundraiser.
Planning and Organising
- Ensure activities are well-planned, resourced and budgeted for, effectively managing their own workload and medium- to longer-term plans with their manager’s support, being available ‘out-of-hours’ where it makes sense for accessibility of service delivery for young people and partners
- Work with the ‘Learning for Life’ Team to plan and organise holiday and regular curricular activities for young people, including the contractual activities for Year 11.
- Work with the small grants group and Senior Fundraiser to develop funding
proposals to improve services and/or resources for young people.
People and Stakeholder Management
- Develop a relationship with young people based on respect and trust, while establishing boundaries; modelling and challenging inappropriate behaviour to help them develop their socio-emotional skills.
- Ensure activities are culturally sensitive and allow young people's cultural identity to develop.
- Recruit, build the capability of and ‘supervise’ staff, including volunteers towards
quality practice based on warmth, responsiveness, scaffolding and supporting awareness.
- Develop relationships of trust and respect with external partners and agencies, building a support network for young people and acting as a critical friend as necessary.
Risk Management and Safeguarding
- Ensure activities and wellbeing interventions and partnerships that help deliver them are risk assessed and safeguarding procedures are in place as required, while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and local policy developments.
- Share any issues of concern regarding young people with the relevant member of staff and other agencies.
- Undertake administrative tasks, maintain effective recording systems and keep an up-to-date record of engagement, individual’s issues and development, and comply with KRAN’s policies and procedures.
