The Historic Dockyard Chatham, the best preserved of all Georgian dockyards, is the world’s most complete dockyard of the Age of Sail and today is the leading example of a mixed-use heritage estate. A vitally significant historic estate delivering outstanding preservation, an award-winning independent museum, commercial estate, higher education campus, leading film location and residential community.
As a registered charity that employs over 140 staff and 300 volunteers, people are at the heart of our Dockyard community. Our culture strives for excellence across the board and our team are hugely passionate and engaged in all aspects of our work. From historic building preservation through the diverse reuse of our historic estate, to engaging the widest possible audiences in learning about the significance and history of the former Royal Dockyard, The Historic Dockyard Chatham is a workplace like no other.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in delivering weddings, corporate functions and special events across one of the South East’s most unique and prestigious heritage venues. Based within the exquisitely and recently restored Commissioner’s House and working across a range of historic event spaces, you will help create memorable experiences for clients and guests while contributing to the commercial success of the Trust.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced, highly organised and customer-focused Weddings and Events Manager to oversee the delivery of weddings, private functions, corporate events and hospitality activities across The Historic Dockyard Chatham. Working closely with the Commercial Manager and Hospitality Sales Team, you will ensure every event is delivered to the highest possible standard, providing exceptional service from initial handover through to successful event completion. The role requires strong leadership, pride in our beautiful event spaces, attention to detail and a hands-on approach.
About You
You will have proven experience delivering high-quality events, weddings, hospitality or venue operations, with a strong focus on customer service and operational excellence. You will be confident leading teams, coordinating multiple and dynamic priorities and maintaining calm professionalism in a fast-paced environment. You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, combining a practical, hands-on approach with strong commercial awareness.
